I am a budding graphic designer interested in screen printing and was wondering how you learned?
Was it a self-taught kind of a process or were you formally trained somehow?
I am actually not formally trained in printmaking. I was always sketching and doing small collages and linocut prints, but I mostly considered myself a writer until I found a community print studio here in Pittsburgh called Artists Image Resource where I learned how to silkscreen print by hand at a weekly open studio. In that space I was given basic guidance, but it’s a very hands-on, sink or swim environment that leads to a lot of self-taught skills. Additionally, I learned a wealth of information on the process in the forums at www.gigposters.com that was invaluable.
Best of luck with your screenprinting! It’s all a process of trial and error and learning from mistakes as well as successes.
